Intelect Announces Record Apprentice Intake

Since 1998, apprenticeships have been the building blocks of Intelect’s workforce, and this year, as the company marks its 25th anniversary, they’re also celebrating a second milestone by hiring a record number of electrical apprentices in one cohort.

Apprenticeships

Known for their award-winning training programme, the company welcomes nine ambitious apprentices to their team this September, eight of whom will be studying electrical engineering.

In total, Intelect now employs 28 apprentices across a range of educational levels and disciplines, covering everything from accountancy and design, to mechanical and electrical engineering.

Intelect director, John Thompson explained why consistently hiring apprentices has been a non-negotiable for the company over the last 24 years, “As an employer, apprenticeships have been one of the driving forces behind our business growth.

“They’ve enabled us to widen our business capabilities to service a broader range of clients, all whilst sheltering us from the skills gap that our industry is unfortunately notorious for.

“As we adjust back to normal life following the pandemic, we feel that now, more than ever, it is particularly important that we support young people into meaningful career paths.”

Intelect works closely with six training providers to deliver their apprenticeship programme, collaborating with Middlesbrough College, JTL, and Teesside University to name a few.

Principal of Middlesbrough College, Zoe Lewis said, “Companies like Intelect are so important to our local community. A business born out of local people who remain committed to supporting and developing local talent.

“We have been delighted to have worked in partnership with Intelect for many years and it has been a pleasure watching their business grow from strength to strength as young people flourish and develop in their new roles.

“This latest record intake of apprentices cements their deserved place as a recent winner at the North East Business Awards and it has been an absolute honour for our team here to have played a small part in their great success.”

The new intake follows on from Intelect being crowned winners of the Apprenticeships, Training and Skills Award at the Teesside North East Business Awards in June. They will face Unipres and Newcastle Building Society in the Grand Final at Hardwick Hall on Thursday 29th September.
